Double Glazing
A single pane of glass provides very poor insulation because glass is a good conductor of heat, therefore much of the heat in your room literally goes out the window! Install Double Glazing, and you have a layer of air trapped between two panes. Air is a poor conductor so far less heat is lost through the window.
The benefits of double glazing:
- Reduced Heat Loss in Winter
- Reduced Heat Gain is Summer
- Conserve Energy in both Heating & Cooling Costs
- Noise Reduction
- Condensation Reduction
- Creates a Healthy Home
Converting Aluminum Windows to Double Glazed
Glass Specialists in conjunction with HomePlus have developed many systems and processes to enable us to convert virtually any brand or type of Aluminium style of window to Double Glazing. Generally the process involves the changing of the outer bead on the fixed windows and the frame around the opening window on openers. We replace all of the existing glass with a brand new factory sealed complete double glazed unit. This ensures that your new windows are fully guaranteed for 10 years and meet the very latest New Zealand Standards.
We do not need to replace the window surround or the Timber Reveals, therefore there is no need to redecorate and our work does not affect the outer seals of the windows, therefore avoiding any kind of leaky home issues. We also can replace the latches to the double tongued latch which enables you to leave the windows slightly open when you are not home, yet the home stays secure. Converting Timber Windows to Double Glazed
Converting timber windows is possible and can be done with excellent results. Generally speaking, the process is handled one of two ways, either an adapter is used, such as Apaptaglaze (See Below) or the timber widows have the glazing channel enlarged to allow a factory sealed double glazed unit, which is the more common process. The enlarging of the glazing channel process involves the skill of both Glass Spec’s and a qualified timber joiner. The process is simple and handled completely by the team at Glass Spec's quickly and efficiently.
Adaptaglaze™ is a product owned by Glass Specialists and is designed to enable double glazing to be installed into existing Wooden or difficult Aluminium joinery. Adaptaglaze™ has made double glazing possible for many people who were looking at changing their windows to accommodate double glazing, but were unable to in the normal way due to older or unusual window styles. Adaptaglaze™ also allows for correct drainage of the sealed units and helps to strengthen up the sash frames that were not originally designed for double glazing.
EVS Double Glazing to Timber Windows
EVS is a totally new glazing system that is designed to fit externally to existing timber windows. EVS’s unique patent pending technology allows trapped moisture to be vented, while providing increased thermal insulation and protection. EVS has the performance of triple glazing but at more economical prices than double glazing. Installation is a lot quicker and easier than traditional retro fitting double glazing to timber windows, which saves money and time.
PVCu insulation and protection
The latest EVS profiles are made from PVCu which can be painted to match your existing timber paint finish. The PVCu profiles provide increased weather protection to the vulnerable putty edges as well as increased the thermal layers to reduce heat loss. The attractive EVS profile adds further character to your existing timber frames.
EVS Retro Glazing provides greater protection to older character windows that are exposed to the elements by providing a durable protective uPVC cover frame with integrated double seals that prevent moisture reaching the old putty and glass. This uPVC wont rot and can be painted to blend into the existing colour scheme, adding to the character detail of the original windows.
Secondary Glazing
Winterglaze® Secondary Glazing is a system where a second pane of Glass or Acrylic (Perspex) is installed to the inside of the existing window. Glass Specialists use the HomePlus Winterglaze system for secondary glazing, and this is an excellent system for achieving the balance between cost and heat loss and comfort.
Whether your windows are timber or aluminium, the Winterglaze Thermal Spacer provides a separation between the original window and the additional secondary glazing unit, as well as allowing ventilation of the cavity.
This patent pending design feature reduces fogging and eliminates infill distortion – common problems with many other secondary glazing products - while still allowing easy removal for cleaning.
A sliding screen with a colour matched metal handle and integrated interlocking edge allows you to open either sliding or opening awning type windows
